...to not only cut his own hair at school, but McKenzie's hair too (almost 4 inches)!! Today when I got home I had a message from Kaleb's teacher Mrs. Field. She didn't say why she was calling and said she would call back. I could only assume that something had happened at school so I asked Kaleb, "how was your day at school" and he quickly said, "fine." I then asked, "are you sure?" and he said, "maybe not." I said, "what happened at school?" and he first said, "I don't know." I told him "you need to remember, or you will get in more trouble." He said, "I cut McKenzie's hair." I almost passed out, but held myself together and asked him "why?" and all I could get out of him was "I don't know." I could feel myself getting worked up so I sent him to his room so I could process it. After a few minutes I went upstairs and sat down on his bed with him. I said, "Kaleb, why did you cut McKenzie's hair?" Again, all I could get out of him was "I don't know." As I'm talking to him, I realize that he has also cut his own hair (which makes me especially irritated, because we have family pictures on Sunday). Next, I asked him, "where did you learn to cut hair from?" He said, very seriously, "Aunt Katrina" (this is my sister-in-law that cuts his hair). I said Kaleb, "how old are you?" and he said "Five and three quarters". Now I say "boys that are five and three quarters do not cut hair. Auntie Katrina had to go to a special school to learn how to cut hair. Plus scissors can be very dangerous and you could have hurt yourself or McKenzie." After some serious tears (on his part) he decided to write McKenzie an apology note. We also talked about What Would Jesus Do and will be getting him a WWJD bracelet to help to remind him to make good choices.
Later, I was able to talk to Mrs. Field and she explained that it was very evident that Kaleb did not do this to be malicious and that he was VERY remorseful (apparently he and McKenzie are quite good friends). He loves to be silly and make others laugh and it wouldn't surprise me if he somehow thought this would be funny. He obviously learned very quickly that it wasn't a good idea by not only McKenzie's reaction, but also Mrs. Egan (a friend of ours that happen to be subbing, while Mrs. Field was assessing students) and Mrs. Field's reaction. Mrs. Field told Kaleb he made a poor choice and that she would need to let his parents know. He quickly said that he didn't want to go to the Principal's office (a.k.a-Daddy's office) because he might get kicked out of school! I'll admit that Kevin and I didn't think kicking him out of school was such a bad idea, but Mrs. Field reminded us that was a little harsh for a Kindergartner and that Kaleb was very sad about his decision.
So there you have it...I thought it was worth documentation, because someday I know this will be funny!
Oh, it is also important to note that McKenzie's Mom chuckled when she heard what had happened, because McKenzie had just cut her own hair a few months before. Phew...that was a relief to hear!
More stories to come...hopefully just not this exciting!!
