While Basketball seems to be our boys favorite sport...I'm not going to lie, I'm glad it is OVER! Both boys played on two basketball teams this season, so if you do the math...that is FOUR teams for this Mom to keep track of (practices, games, snacks, oh and let's not forget the 1 year old in the mix). Although the boys loved every second of it, I don't know that we will be doing the two-team (Konner) + two-team (Kaleb)= Four-team thing again! Live and Learn-right?!?
The boys had the opportunity to be part of the Puyallup FORCE Basketball, which is an amazing program that goes beyond the game of basketball. Each FORCE basketball clinic had a theme (respect, teamwork, family) and the kids walked away with much more than basketball skills. We are so grateful for the coaches and families that are dedicated to not only the love of the game, but also the love of the kids!
Konner had a great season! He played against mostly 2nd graders in one league and that was a good challenge for him and our entire team. On his all first grade team he really shined this year. He had close to 20 points in a few games and we are so proud of the team player that he has become. His skill to work on is definitely "Traveling"...sometimes it was just too tempting to run without dribbling!
Kaleb, OH Kaleb! This kid is SO fun to watch! He is best at passing the ball and "defending" (as he would say) his man. Coach Chris says he gives his man a "Jedi stare"...looking them right in the eye very intensely (while having no clue where the basketball is). At one game he got cornered by a few kids and felt stuck so he just threw the ball backwards over his head...not a typical basketball move! The skill that Kaleb needs to work on is "Shooting!" We love that Kaleb is not a "ball-hog" (like most kids at this age), but he rarely ever shoots the ball, instead he passes it so someone else can shoot. One night I was lying in bed with him and told him if he scored a basket, I'd give him $5.00. I told him I'd take him to buy a toy with it or he could save it for our cruise. He decided he wanted to save it for the cruise. Well, somehow during his game the next day this whole bribing thing got twisted around and a boy on our team told Coach Chris that Kaleb needed to score or he COULDN'T go on his family cruise. Are you kidding me...I sure felt like Mom of the Year when Chris announced this to everyone in the bleechers! Well, the whole thing worked out well for Kaleb because his team was determined to help him score...so not only did he score, once or twice...he scored THREE times in a row! It was so fun to watch...and NO he didn't get $15.00 he just got $5.00!
