Well, it has finally happened...we have a broken bone in the family...actually 2 broken bones! While I'm sad that this has happened, I'm thankful that in 8 years we have managed to not have any other broken bones.
On August 11th Konner was over at his buddy Caleb's grandparent’s house about to go off their fun zip-line and he lost his grip, falling only about 4 feet...but landing wrong on his left hand. He was in good hands and tried to be tough, but it was pretty clear that he was in a lot of pain. Jennifer brought Konner to me and I took him to the doctor. The doctor put a splint on it and referred us for x-rays the next day (it was too late to go the same day).
Konner has been known to be a little "dramatic" at times, so I wasn't completely convinced that this "owie" was all that serious. I told him upfront that this could cost a lot of money, so he needed to be honest about how much pain he was truly in. When he asked me "how much?" I told him about 3-4 pairs of Nikes to help put it in perspective for him. He said, "I'm sorry Mom, but it REALLY hurts." Bless him!! One thing I do know about Konner, is that he is the most honest kid I know. So when he told me that, I knew that "drama" was not playing a huge part in this situation.
Kevin took him in for x-rays the next day and called to inform me that Konner had not only broken one bone, but two bones in his left wrist. Poor guy!! His hand was pretty swollen so they couldn't cast it right away, so we had to wait a few days and then go in for his cast.
My Mom was great and kept Kaleb and Kamdynn, while I took Konner in for his cast. I asked Kaleb if he wanted to come watch Konner get his cast and Konner tried to convince him to come, telling him he could have hot chocolate in the waiting room. Kaleb answered "No, I think I'll stay with Nana...I pretty much love Nana more than hot chocolate." How cute is that?
So Konner and I headed off to the doctor. He requested a black cast (like Papa had when he fell off the roof), and the doctor said that he has never had a kid ask for a black cast. Konner informed him that he was going for Raiders colors...like his Papa!
The cast procedure was quick and simple and he did great! On the way home we stopped and picked up a silver pen so everyone could use it to sign his cast. He would only let Nana sign it first...I was the second to sign it! I can't tell if my kids love their Nana or not?!?
After Nana signed the cast we headed back over to Caleb's grandparents house for his 8th birthday BMX Bash! Konner insisted on bringing his bike to the party and rode it a little bit, but not with the best attitude. He was pretty disappointed that he couldn't show off on his bike. The last picture above is one of Konner under the zip-line that he fell from, with Caleb at the top!
